Hip replacement in Spain

Direct Anterior  Approach (DAA) hip replacement,

personally guided by orthopaedic surgeon Lucas Kleijn

Achieve optimal results after hip surgery

Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) with personal guidance throughout your treatment

Are you considering a hip replacement in Spain? Hipfix offers hip replacement surgery using the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA), performed by Dutch orthopaedic surgeon Lucas Kleijn.

Treatment takes place in  a modern private hospital on the Costa Blanca, with an English-speaking team and organised postoperative care and rehabilitation.

The Direct Anterior Approach allows the hip joint to be reached between the muscles, without routinely detaching the major muscles around the hip. This can support early mobilisation and functional recovery after surgery.

Surgery is only part of the journey

Recovering from hip replacement surgery in the Netherlands typically means being discharged from the hospital the day after your procedure. However, aftercare is often not provided by the hospital, leaving many patients to rely on informal help from family, friends, or neighbors. While recovery in a care home can be an option, these facilities are not always available, and often, this care is not covered by insurance.

At Hipfix, we offer a more complete aftercare solution in collaboration with trusted rehabilitation partners. Thanks to efficient organization and strong agreements with health insurers or the Healthcareabroad team (for Irish patients ;  healthcareabroad.ie ), we provide an accessible, high-quality recovery experience.

Take the next step towards pain-free movement and rehabilitate in an ideal setting, surrounded by palmtrees. This is your best chance for an outstanding recovery!

Hip surgery using the anterior approach

        • Quicker Recovery: Benefit from a faster healing process, getting you back to your routine sooner.
        • Minimized Muscle Damage: Advanced techniques ensure minimal impact on surrounding muscles, aiding in a smoother recovery.
        • Reduced Pain: Experience less pain both during and after the procedure, thanks to improved surgical methods.
        • Lower Risk of Limping: With precise techniques, the chances of developing a limp post-surgery are significantly reduced.
        • Minimal Risk of Leg Length Discrepancy: Surgical accuracy ensures your leg lengths remain balanced, reducing the risk of discrepancies.
        • Lower Risk of Dislocation: Enhanced procedures lead to a reduced risk of hip dislocation, promoting greater stability and security.

The anterior approach uses an anatomical interval between the muscles to reach the hip joint, without routinely detaching the major muscles around the hip. This can support early mobilisation and functional recovery. The technique is technically demanding and experience with this approach is therefore important.

      highly recommended

I underwent hip surgery by Dr. Kleijn on November 20th.

I had been dealing with a lot of pain for quite some time. The orthopedic surgeon in the Netherlands refused to operate on me due to my age (48 years old).

Unfortunately, my world kept getting smaller and smaller because of the pain. During our summer vacation in Spain last year, we heard an advertisement for the HCB clinic on the radio. After signing up, things started moving very quickly.

In October, I had a consultation with Dr. Kleijn. How happy I was to hear that he was willing to operate on me!!

In November, it was time. After a successful surgery, I spent 3 weeks in rehab in Denia. I highly recommend this. Sun, nice weather, kind staff, and professional therapists.

After 3 weeks, I was able to return home pain-free!

      Warm regards,

      Jolanda

‘If only I had done this much earlier’

I recently underwent hip surgery in Denia, Spain. My patients ( I am a physiotherapist myself ) always said after the operation ‘ if only I had done this much earlier’ and this certainly applied to me as well. The operation (via the so-called anterior approach ) was performed by the highly skilled orthopaedist Lucas Kleijn, and I am extremely grateful for his professionalism and dedication. From the first consultation, it was clear that Lucas Kleijn is an expert in his field. He took the time to answer all my questions and explained the whole process simply and insightfully. His extensive knowledge and experience gave me confidence that I was in good hands. On his website, hipfix.nl, I also found a lot of useful information about the procedure and the recovery process.

      ‘I am very satisfied’

As first patient in Denia ( Spain ) operated on for my front hip method by doctor Lucas Kleijn. I had an intake interview in Helmond beforehand and everything was explained well and calmly. After the operation, aftercare was also optimal and good. The entire four-week course (four-day operation in HCB Denia and rehabilitation in Patricia’s Benidorm home) can be recommended to everyone. Surgery went well, in the following days in hospital Dr Kleijn came every day to check how I was doing. In the following period, Dr Kleijn was always available in the Netherlands if I had any questions. The rehabilitation in Patricia’s home was optimal, which is also a compliment for the physio therapists. There was also good consultation between the physio therapists and Dr Kleijn. They knew exactly how to deal with this new method of surgery and the appropriate physio. I am very satisfied.

      ‘competent and calm’

‘I am very satisfied with Dr Kleijn. Doctor Kleijn operated on me through a course of surgery in Spain. I experienced this as very nice. I went for a consultation in the Netherlands, where the doctor gave all explanations and possible risks of the operation. Once operated on in Spain, he kept in touch and with the Spanish doctor but also with me by phone and app. Why in Spain, in Spain the rehabilitation process is better than in the Netherlands, you undergo 3 weeks of intensive rehabilitation there, which resulted in me going home after 3 weeks, walking outdoors with 1 crutch and indoors without. Doctor Kleijn, is knowledgeable, calm and has a reliable appearance and he took time for me.’

      fantastic from start to finish!

My experience with hipfix.eu was fantastic from start to finish! I couldn’t have asked for anything better. After I signed up, Dr. Lucas Kleijn reached out to me the very next day, and we discussed everything in person. We set a date that worked for me, and before I knew it, it was time. The day before the surgery, everything was reviewed again, and on the day itself, I was quickly taken to the recovery room. They came in regularly to check if I could move my toes, and then they brought me back to a private room in the hospital.

On the second day, the physiotherapist arrived with a walker, and by the third day, she brought crutches. That same day, I was able to go back to the care hotel after practicing walking up and down stairs. The whole process was painless! At the hotel, I started a physiotherapy program—two sessions a day for an hour, lasting 3 weeks. The improvement was noticeable every day. I highly recommend this to everyone!
